What is an Accommodation Bond?
An accommodation bond is an amount of money that may be payable by residents entering a residential care service with an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). The Accommodation Bond is paid in addition to any Basic Daily Care Fee and Income Tested fee that apply to the Resident. Ningana Retirement Village will retain interest / income earned from the investment of the Accommodation Bond funds.
What is Retention?
As advised by the Department of Health and Ageing, Ningana Retirement Village charges a retention fee per month for up to 5 years. (The Retention fee is subject to change per Department of Health and Ageing). Upon discharge from the facility a balance of funds, being the Accommodation Bond less retentions paid to date, will be refunded to the resident or their estate within 24 hours of discharge.
How much Accommodation Bond will I pay?
There is no fixed amount for an Accommodation Bond. The Department of Health and Ageing stipulate the minimum permissible value of assets that a resident must be left with. Residents who have assets valued at more than this amount can be asked to pay an Accommodation Bond. Depending on your individual situation, there are a number of ways of paying Accommodation Bonds:
1. Lump Sum of the whole accommodation bond within six months from admission
(Interest at the applicable rate may be charged if there is
a delay in payment
lump sum)
2. Periodic (fortnightly or monthly payment which has a retention
and interest component (Interest at applicable rate would apply)
3. Combination of lump sum and periodic payment.
